Expect the refs to throw a lot of flags during Super Bowl LVII

I don’t watch sporting events for the players or the game. Seeing incredible athletes accomplish phenomenal feats that I wouldn’t dream of doing in a billion years...nope, not for me. Rather, I watch sports because of the officials. To be so close to the action despite having none of the athletic prowess, yet still…

Tony Romo is paid too much to care

There is some comfort in knowing that the higher-ups at CBS see and hear the same things we do during their NFL broadcast. They can’t miss that Tony Romo is merely making noises like some sort of fusion between a pin and whoopee cushion and not much else. It seems they even tried to do something about it. But when…

The NBA regular season would be more palatable with stars on bad teams

A division-consuming storyline may be the platform that AEW's women’s roster needs to launch

A rising tide lifts all boats, so they tell me. Is failed HC Nathaniel Hackett's presence enough to recruit Aaron Rodgers?

Nathaniel Hackett to the Denver Broncos was thought to be a way to entice Aaron Rodgers to request a trade to the Mile High city. Breitling has just launched an extremely limited-edition watch series and a new squad, dedicated to the unions and federations that make up Six Nations Rugby: England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, France, and Italy. The Six Nations kicks off February 4, marking Breitling’s second season as the Official Timing Partner to Six Nations Rugby, the organisation known the world over for delivering rugby’s greatest championships, showcasing exhilarating men’s and women’s matches between its six competing unions: RFU (England), IRFU (Ireland), WRU (Wales), SRU (Scotland), FFR (France), and FIR (Italy). The Swiss watchmaker also holds the title of exclusive luxury watch partner to Six Nations Rugby, which was celebrated in today’s unveiling of the Chronomat Six Nations. This dynamic new series features a unique timepiece for each national team, limited to 150 pieces per watch. “As Breitling’s all-purpose, no-limits sports watch, the Chronomat Six Nations is the ideal match for the fast and fearless world of rugby,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern. The stainless-steel watches have all the signature Chronomat characteristics: the raised rider tabs at the 15-minute marks, the easy-grip onion crown, the triple-register dial with integrated date at 6 o’clock and the classic rouleaux bracelet – all powered by Breitling’s exceptional Manufacture Caliber 01. Each model sets itself apart by a dial that expresses the individual union’s colours, with its logo positioned in the subdial at 9 o’clock as well as on the sapphire crystal caseback. MEET THE RUGBY SQUAD View this post on Instagram A post shared by BREITLING (@breitling) Providing the personality behind this collection is the new Breitling Rugby Squad, a crew of seven notable players from each of the Six Nations Rugby unions and federations, who will represent the Chronomat in their home countries. Representing Wales, top scorer George North; from Ireland, three-time champion Conor Murray; from England, powerhouse prop Kyle Sinckler; from Italy, star fly-half Paolo Garbisi, who made his test debut in 2020; from France, Gaël Fickou, a 2022 Grand Slam winner; from Scotland, Hamish Watson, the 2021 Player of the Championship; and also from Scotland, Stuart Hogg, twice named the Championship’s top performer. Breitling’s role as Official Timing Partner to Six Nations Rugby includes the Six Nations Championship, the TikTok Women’s Six Nations, the Autumn Nations Series, and the Rugby World Cup 2023 warm-up matches. The high-performance action of Six Nations Rugby competitions, combined with its values of sportsmanship and inclusivity, are what drew Breitling to the partnership. The two also share a common heritage: the watch brand was founded in 1884, while the Championship can trace its roots back a year earlier, to 1883. The Chronomat was originally designed as the official watch of the Frecce Tricolori, the famed Italian aerobatics squadron. Not only popular amongst aviators, the Chronomat’s tachymeter attracted the interest of Formula 1 teams in the 1980s and 1990s. Its reversible rider tabs, which allow for “count up” or “count down” functions, also made it ideal for diving and yachting regattas. The Chronomat has since become Breitling’s most multifaceted sports watch, associated with athletes who push the limits of human endurance in the air, on land, and at sea. The Chronomat Six Nations contains the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, a COSC-certified chronometer that delivers an impressive power reserve of about 70 hours and carries a five-year warranty. The 42-mm case and rouleaux bracelet are stainless steel. The hands are coated with luminescent Super-LumiNova®, and like all Chronomat models, it is water-resistant to 200 meters. Each caseback is specially engraved with the name of the union, “Six Nations”, and the “One of 150” limitation. The Chronomat Six Nations is available in the UK and select EU countries. The Six Nations Championship kicks off February 4, when Wales hosts Ireland. The series runs until March 19, followed by the TikTok Women’s Six Nations, beginning March 25.
One of the most recognisable faces in MMA, Super Sage Northcutt is making his return to ONE. The American star will face Pakistan’s Ahmed Mujtaba in a lightweight bout at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III  We have not seen Northcutt in action since January 2019, due to the pandemic combined with a number of injury issues he has been working through. But on May 5 he is back – and his return will coincide with another huge moment as ONE makes its on-ground debut in the USA – hosting the event from Colorado. Northcutt is understandably excited about the prospect. “Oh man, I’ll tell you what, it feels so good to be back. It’s been a while. I’ve been itching to get back,” he said. “Not only that, getting the fight in the United States, the first U.S. card for ONE Championship, I couldn’t be more excited for that. “You have an incredible fighter, Demetrious Johnson, headlining the card, so the card’s gonna be super exciting, especially for the first card in the U.S. I’m so excited.” Still just 26-years-old he has a lifetime ahead of him in MMA terms and is ready to build on his 11-3 overall record. “Being 26 years old right now, I’m still extremely young, so I’m looking forward to a long and successful career. I feel like I’m just getting started, and I’m still so young that I can have a lot of fights. “A lot of people will be thinking, ‘Hey, Sage might have some ring rust.’ It’s been three-and-a-half years. It’s a little bit of time. But I’ve been training, I’ve been staying sharp. “I feel like I’ve improved in a lot of different areas. I’m looking forward to showing it.” Opponent Ahmed Mujtaba will be no pushover. With a 9-2 overall record he has recorded two impressive stoppage wins in his last two outings and will be looking to make a statement with a high profile win on May 5.
History was made at the weekend with the start of ONE Friday Fights at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok. With a night of Muay Thai and MMA action, the capacity crowd was treated to an array of blistering bouts – he’s what we took away from the night. Fight of the Year? What a way to kick things off on ONE Friday Fights with a bout that will take some topping in the yearly reviews. Seksan Or. Kwanmuang and Tyson Harrison put on an instant Muay Thai classic at a 140lbs catchweight. Back and forth doesn’t do this one justice, with both men going toe-to-toe for the full nine minutes and putting on a show those watching won’t forget in a hurry. Seksan might have got the nod via split decision, and a performance bonus, but both men take huge credit for making this special night even more so. No beating Nong-O Nong-O Gaiyanghadao is getting a bit ridiculous now – figuring out how someone stops him even more so. Russia’s Alaverdi Ramazanov started the fight well, and saw some levels of success in the opening rounds, but the way in which Nong-O figured his opponent out and then systematically dismantled him was terrifying. A third round stoppage, after a barrage of heavy artillery, was enough to pocket a performance bonus – and send another message to his potential rivals. Prajanchai back on the title hunt Anyone wanting to write off Prajanchai PK.Saenchai can think again. Despite no longer being in possession of the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai world title Prajanchai is still as good as ever. He keep the heat on Kompetch Sitsarawatsuer across every round this weekend, coming forward with a barrage of strikes at will, and not letting his younger opponent the window of opportunity he craved. This unanimous decision puts him back in the win column, and surely on another collision course with Joseph Lasiri – the man who took his title. Friday nights just got fun If you are anything like us, the gap between events can often feel a lot longer than it is – now we need not worry. ONE Friday Fights being a weekly calendar entry is exactly what fight fans need.
New ONE Featherweight Kickboxing world champion Chingiz Allazov says trust is the key factor behind his success. The Azerbaijani-Belarussian striker claimed the title last weekend when he defeated Superbon with a stunning second round knockout in their highly anticipated clash at ONE Fight Night 6 in Bangkok Thailand. Not only did he pick up the title on the night but also a Performance of the Night bonus, as he extended his ONE unbeaten record to four fights. The 29-year-old lost his first bout with the organisation, but has since been on a mission to capture the crown – and says there is a simple guiding principle behind what he does. “Trust your heart. Trust your coach, trust your team, and trust your game plan,” he explains. “Every day I say God help me, please. I wake up, every day I go train.  Trust your life and trust your heart and every day you wake up and go train.” The process and gameplan for Allazov has been a long one, with an extensive amateur record before moving into the pro game. This is a fighter who has paid his dues and is now delivering on a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice. “Yes, I have a long amateur career. I am a five-time world champion in Muay Thai in WMC, in other promotions. Yes, I have many amateur fights but for me before maybe I fight 5-10 fights in one month, it’s normal. We have more than 200, maybe 250 fights. I lost only three fights in pro. I fight before in kickboxing, kickboxing, and MMA together. You have many fights and after you go professional, you change your style and everything is okay. You know this is good for the young fighters. This is good for your career, this is good.” And while Allazov has plenty of experience in Muay Thai, he has no interest at the moment in targeting a second title and a potential superfight with Tawanchai.  “I like Muay Thai, I like elbows, I like knees, I like clinching, we make this, my team, I started my career in Muay Thai, not kickboxing,” he said. “After I go up in K1, I changed my style a bit and trained only with K1, fighting only at K1. But for me, this is another style, really another style.  “Maybe Tawanchai wants to come to my weight, and fight with me in kickboxing, no problem. Welcome! I say, I like this. This is welcome, I said it before. Welcome to Bangkok. But me going to Muay Thai is another situation. I don’t like it, maybe, I won’t focus 100 percent on this style. I don’t like fighting in other styles.” Whatever his next steps in 2023, Chingiz Allazov will certainly be one of the hottest properties in ONE.

ONE Fight Night 6 went down in Thailand this weekend, and the first event of the year did not disappoint. Here are five key things we took away from the night in Bangkok Awesome Allazov It is pretty early in 2023 to be talking about knockout of the year contenders – but Chingiz Allazov certainly gave us one to discuss. Taking on the legendary Superbon, the Azerbaijani-Belarussian landed a sumptuous right cross in the second round to turn the lights out on the champ. Allazov kicks of the year by winning the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title and grabbing a $60,000 bonus in the process. A very good night’s work. Fairtex and Jaroonsak are both absolute warriors We had been looking forward to a mixed rules match between Stamp Fairtex and Anissa Mexen, but when Mexan missed weight cutting protocols that fight was scrapped. Up stepped 19-year-old Anna Jaroonsak – for a three round strawweight kickboxing bout, and did these two put on a show. Fairtex may have come out of it with a decision win and a performance bonus – but both came out with huge credibility for the short-notice fight. Mikey is the man Never let the glasses fool you – Mikey Musumeci is a beast. Defending his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling world title, the American put on a clinic against Gantumur Bayanduuren. Musumeci wanted the best sambo fighter in his division and got him in Bayanduuren, and proceeded to spend the entire fight controlling the pace and positioning, transitioning seamlessly from one submission attempt to the next. Bayanduuren was durable, and takes credit for not being stopped, but Musumeci is on another level Rodtang aims for two titles Current ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang may not have had his title on the line this weekend, but certainly made a statement. He progressed his current ONE unbeaten run to 13 bouts across striking disciplines with an impressive catchweight kickboxing clash over Jiduo Yibu – could we see him challenging for a second title in the near future? Legends have still got it Two ONE legends proved they still have plenty of fight left in them this weekend with impressive wins. Former middleweight and light heavyweight world champion Aung La N Sang gave his fans plenty to cheer about making light work of Gilberto Galvao in just 89 seconds. A flurry of strikes saw the Burmese Python record back-to-back wins, having lost three out of four prior to that. Another man bouncing back after a loss was Garry Tonon. He got 2023 off to the perfect start with a first-round kimura win over Johnny Nunez. Tonon’s defeat last time out was his first in seven ONE MMA bouts, and he can now begin to look up again in the featherweight division.
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have announced the launch of the expanded second season of the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League, featuring boys and girls leagues each comprised of 450 players, aged 11-14 from schools across the UAE capital city. The leagues will begin January 21 and culminate with the second annual Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League Finals on Sunday, March 12. The program tipped off with a draft event hosted by DCT Abu Dhabi and the NBA on Saturday, January 14 at the NYU Abu Dhabi campus’s three-court facility. The 60 participating youth teams (30 boys teams and 30 girls teams) were assigned an NBA team for the season, received corresponding NBA team-branded jerseys and participated in basketball development clinics, skills challenges and contests. DCT Abu Dhabi Chairman, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, NBA Europe and Middle East Managing Director Ralph Rivera, seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady and 10-year NBA veteran Luis Scola attended the event and interacted with the youth players. The Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League expanded from 30 teams in its inaugural season in March 2022 to 60 teams for the upcoming season. The program is part of a groundbreaking multiyear partnership between the NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi that saw Abu Dhabi host the first-ever preseason NBA games in the Arabian Gulf in October 2022. HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi said: “Abu Dhabi is contributing to the growth of global youth basketball as we inspire our youth to get active and enrich their lives with respect, teamwork and values of the game.  It is a joy to witness the grassroots passion and excitement among our youth players that can only fuel more interest in sports and pave the way for a new generation of home-grown sporting talent, inspired by the Jr. NBA and the many sports initiatives across Abu Dhabi.” “We are thrilled to expand the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League in partnership with DCT Abu Dhabi to provide more Emirati youth with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals and core values of the game,” said Rivera.  “Interest from local schools has been phenomenal, so we are encouraged that the program has already doubled in size and will only continue to grow and provide youth players and coaches with greater access to the sport.” “It was so much fun to engage with the youth teams taking part in the second Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League and witness their excitement for the upcoming season,” said McGrady.  “Basketball is a global sport that transcends countries and cultures, and I’m thankful to have played a role in helping grow the game here in Abu Dhabi.” McGrady, a 15-year NBA veteran who retired from the league in 2013, is a seven-time NBA All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time NBA scoring champion, winner of the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2001 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. Scola, a native of Argentina, currently serves as the CEO of Italian Lega Basket Serie A team Pallacanestro Varese.  He signed with the Houston Rockets in 2007 and was voted to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, before going on to play for the Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets over his decade-long NBA career. The Jr. NBA is the league’s global youth basketball programme for boys and girls, teaching the fundamental skills and core values of the game – teamwork, respect, determination and community – at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents.  The Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League aims to promote the values of the game and encourage youth to lead an active and healthy lifestyle through participation in sport.  During the 2022-23 season, the Jr. NBA will run 111 leagues in Europe and the Middle East that will collectively reach nearly 50,000 youth in 28 countries. The partnership also sees DCT Abu Dhabi, under “Experience Abu Dhabi,” the tourism promotion initiative of the UAE’s capital, serve as the Official Tourism Destination Partner of the NBA in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and China. For more information on the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League, which will continue to be operated by Gulf Sports Media FZ LLC (trading as Sport360), visit OWQLO and follow the Jr. NBA on Facebook (, Instagram (@jrnba and @nbaarabic) and Twitter (@jrnba and @nbaarabic).
Maserati MSG Racing accelerated into a new era for Formula E at the Mexico City E-Prix, with the team narrowly missing out on the top 10 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Facing the dawn of Gen3, drivers Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Günther gained invaluable insight during the Season 9 opener and showed promising initial pace following an encouraging pre-season test. A challenging qualifying session – which saw both drivers fall short of the Duel stages – left the duo facing an uphill recovery in the race, in which they started from 16th and 17th. Edo advanced to 15th on the opening lap by overtaking McLaren’s Rene Rast, although the race was quickly paused when a collision for Robin Frijns brought out the Safety Car. Action was resumed on lap five but was again halted one lap later when Jaguar’s Sam Bird stopped on track with a technical failure. The field took to green flag running again on lap nine. Edo and Max overtook a penalised Dan Ticktum during the restart, while the latter also passed Rast, who activated Attack Mode, for 15th. On lap 18, an unfortunate spin and collision caused by a snap of understeer forced Edo to retire, leaving Max as the team’s sole runner for the remainder of the race. With a late Attack Mode activation, the German pilot made good progress to threaten for points in the closing laps and overtook DS Penske’s Jean-Eric Vergne on the final tour to finish 11th. Formula E’s ninth season will continue on January 27th and 28th, with a double-header event on the Riyadh Street Circuit in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diriyah. In Their Words James Rossiter, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing “It was a difficult day but in motorsport, you learn the most from your bad days – not your good ones. A poor qualifying put us on the back foot, but in the race, we were able to come back strong, with Max fighting from 17th to 11th and finishing just outside the points. Edo was showing really strong pace during the race, and his incident in Turn One was unfortunate. It’s a shame as his pace was great. We have a lot to learn and there is a lot of data that we need to process from this weekend so that we can be in a better position for the next race in Diriyah.”
Avalanche Andretti’s Jake Dennis produced a dominant drive to win the 2023 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix as the new Formula E season got underway. Dennis climbed from second on the starting grid to win the race ahead of TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team driver Pascal Wehrlein who started from sixth to finish second and Mahindra Racing’s Lucas di Grassi who slipped from Julius Baer Pole Position to finish third. After the race, Dennis soaked in the adulation of the Foro Sol and the capacity crowd of more than 40,000 passionate fans who witnessed the historic debut of the GEN3, a race car performing at the very limit of innovation and pushing the boundaries of EV technology. The Andretti driver made what would be the race-winning move on Lap 12, with the Brit taking advantage of an opening left by di Grassi. From there, Dennis stretched his lead, and through three Safety Car periods, he was able to run away with the race lead, eventually heading home Wehrlein by a huge seven seconds. Last year’s winner in Mexico, Wehrlein pushed to an eventual 11-second margin on third-placed di Grassi, having clambered up from sixth on the grid. Both drive Porsche-powered cars, with the German manufacturer finishing up with four of their powertrains in the top ten. Although Di Grassi started in pole, he found himself on the defensive entering the final third of the race and it took all the Brazilian’s guile to see off the attentions of NEOM McLaren Formula E Team’s Jake Hughes over the closing stages. Eventually, the rookie would be preoccupied with Lotterer looming in his mirrors, relieving the pressure on di Grassi. Lotterer, who moved to the Porsche-powered Andretti team in the off-season, went past Hughes’ McLaren on the inside at the hairpin on the final lap. Fifth was no disappointment for Hughes on debut; the rookie more than impressing ever since he took the McLaren seat at testing in Valencia. He headed home a resurgent Sebastien Buemi – the Swiss having moved from Nissan to Envision Racing over the winter. Season 6 champion António Félix da Costa added to Porsche’s tally with seventh spot on the day, fighting his way up through the points positions late-race with a belated ATTACK MODE. Mitch Evans quietly claimed points and eighth for Jaguar TCS Racing, Nick Cassidy made it two Envision Racing cars in the points with ninth, while reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne could only steer his DS PENSKE to a single point from 14th on the grid. Dennis sealed the TAG Heuer Fastest Lap. Rounds 2 and 3 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship take place in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday 27 January and Saturday 28 January. Jake Dennis, No. 27, Avalanche Andretti Formula E, said: “The fans here have been sensational. In that final lap I could really hear them cheering. To start on the front row and then win by that much, with a Porsche one-two, so big shout out to my team. “It was such a physical race. These cars are so hard to drive physically and with the lower grip as well, it makes everything more challenging. But it’s even more rewarding, especially when you win by five seconds. Time for some tequila with the team, an incredible race. “My team and I have such a good relationship together. We just work so well. It didn’t look like it was happening in qualifying, we turned it round, made some small adjustments for the race and absolutely nailed it. Big kudos to my guys, this is a small repayment to them and hope to have more success because Saudi isn’t that far away.” Pascal Wehrlein, No. 94, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, said: “Great way to start the season, this place was awesome. When you start in P6 and end up in P2 – that’s really really good. I’m very grateful to the car and my teammates for this, I think the last couple of months we have really put in some hard work – especially the last couple of weeks after Valencia – I just want to thank everyone in the team for their hard work. We have a clear goal this season, and that’s the best way to start it. “It seemed like the pace in the race was really good, even in qualifying all the Porsche cars were super strong. We hope it is not a one-off and we keep working hard. Last year Mexico has also been our best race, so we have to make sure we keep working hard to understand the car really well and to make progress. We want to fight for the championship and it’s a good way to start. Lucas di Grassi, No. 11, Mahindra Racing, said: “It was a very very tough race, of course we know in this race that the Porsche’s are really fast, remember last year they won P1, P2 and they disappeared. It was impossible to hold Jake and Pascal, I was running low on energy but I tried to defend as much as I could. In the end a podium is like a win for us with only three or four days in this car, there is so much potential to take it out further, so I am very happy.”

A Virginia assistant HS basketball coach impersonated a 13-year-old player, leads to multiple firings

Multiple girls basketball coaches were fired from a Virginia high school after a 22-year-old assistant coach was caught impersonating a 13-year-old junior varsity player who was out of town during a January game, according to WAVY TV10.

Video allegedly shows former Churchland High School (Portsmouth, Va.) coach Arlisha Boykins posing as the youth player during the Jan. 21 game. WAVY TV 10 gained access to some video clips and aired them during a news segment, which now lives on YouTube. The player, who is presumed to be Boykins, can be seen blocking an opponent’s shot, celebrating a made layup, and grabbing a rebound after her missed free throw.

Boykins has been fired, as was the head coach of the junior varsity team and the head coach of the varsity team, according to the news outlet.

Churchland administration met with parents and players after the incident. Both the junior varsity and varsity teams decided to opt out of the remainder of the season, according to 13 News Now. Both teams were scheduled to play their final game on Feb. 8; the varsity team instead ended the season with an 0-13 record, and the junior varsity ended at 5-3. MaxPreps shows that the JV game on Jan. 21 against Nansemond River (Suffolk, Va.) was a forfeit.

The family of the 13-year-old told WAVY that their daughter does not plan to attend Churchland next season.

“Coaches always preach to the kids about integrity and those types of things, so I was just shocked,” the father said in the video clip.

USC signee Juju Watkins goes off for 60 points on senior night

On Jan. 26, Juju Watkins set a Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) record of 45 points. That school record lasted all of one weekend.

The five-star senior and USC signee blew away her previous record on Tuesday, racking up 60 points in the undefeated Trailblazers’ win over Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.). Watkins led the way on the team’s senior night, also recording 21 and five steals in the 88-39 win.

Watkins was shooting from Caitlin Clark range, drilling 3s from near half court and somehow outdoing her 45-point, 16-rebound, eight-assist game from five days prior.

Los Angeles Times reporter Luca Evans tweeted some clips of Watkins’ otherworldly performance.

This is ridiculous. Juju Watkins just pulled up from near-half court for the second time in a row near end of halftime. Everyone went nuts. She has 26 points at the half. Sierra Canyon girls’ basketball is up 41-23 on Notre Dame.

— Luca Evans (@bylucaevans) February 1, 2023

And there it is. Juju Watkins with a new career high, set 5 days after she set a new career high. 47 points. Oh — as I was typing this tweet she hit a three. 50 points. Just ridiculous. On Sierra Canyon’s senior night.

— Luca Evans (@bylucaevans) February 1, 2023

Watkins is ESPN’s top-rated player in the class of 2023. She is a gold medalist, the 2020 Sports Illustrated Sports Kid of the Year, a two-time Los Angeles Times Girls Basketball Player of the Year and an All-American.

In February 2022, she signed with Klutch Sports Group as the agency’s first female athlete client.

“Her ability to be someone that young women and young men look up to as a player … She just has that it,” said Klutch Sports Group CEO and Founder Rich Paul in an interview at the time with USA TODAY High School Sports.

“She approaches things the right way, she’s very astute and very understanding of her surroundings at a very young age. I’ve been around that before, so I know what that looks like. I’m excited for what’s up ahead.”

The Trailblazers, who play their final game of the regular season on Thursday night, enter with a 25-0 record and the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps rankings.

NFCA, MLB team up on free PLAY BALL youth event prior to Division I Leadoff Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Major League Baseball and the NFCA will team up for a free event for local youths on Feb. 9, the day before the Division I Leadoff Classic begins at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.

Schedule (PDF) | Tournament Central | Purchase Tickets

“We are thrilled to partner with MLB on this special initiative, bringing softball to all communities,” NFCA Executive Director Carol Bruggeman said. “MLB provides unique, fun opportunities for young athletes through their PLAY BALL events. The positive connections made between collegiate student-athletes, coaches and eager youth athletes reflects why the sport of softball is thriving. I can think of no better event to kick off the Division I softball season than with our Leadoff Classic, as the passion and enthusiasm surrounding this event will be sky high. MLB has made a huge commitment to growing diamond sports at the grassroots levels. We appreciate their support of the NFCA and the sport of softball.”

“To have an opportunity to partner with an organization such as NFCA to provide a free opportunity for the community’s youth is such an exciting way to launch the D1 college softball season,” said Vice President of Baseball & Softball Development at Major League Baseball, David James. “For young people to have an unique introduction to the sport through an event like ‘PLAY BALL’ that gets them excited about the game and helps build upon the broader baseball and softball community is an honor to take part in.”

Check-in for the 3:45 p.m. event will begin at 3:15, and is open to participants who are in grades K-6. No prior baseball or softball experience or equipment is necessary. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet student-athletes from the Leadoff Classic teams. All event participants will receive a special co-branded NFCA/MLB PLAY BALL t-shirt, wristband, and bat-and-ball set to take home, plus a treat from Kona Ice.

“The NFCA is an exceptional organization, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work together in building this community of current and future softball players by providing free youth events like ‘PLAY BALL,'” said Sarah Padove, Major League Baseball Manager of Baseball & Softball Development. “We are so excited to start the D1 college softball season with the NFCA Leadoff Classic and this event.”

Seventy-five student-athletes from the 16 participating teams are scheduled to assist with the event, and will sign autographs afterward.

Uncommitted TE Duce Robinson explains why he delayed signing

Now that National Signing Day has come and gone, pretty much all of the elite recruits from the class of 2023 have chosen a college. Yesterday, the nation’s No. 1 Athlete Nyckoles Harbor committed to South Carolina and the top undecided quarterback Jaden Rashada picked Arizona State.

One big name who we didn’t get a decision from is Pinnacle (Ariz.) tight end Duce Robinson, who’s now the top uncommitted player in the cycle.

In an interview on ESPN, Robinson explained that he simply doesn’t know where he wants to play yet and wants to have full conviction when he does.

Elite TE Duce Robinson makes it official on ESPN that he will not sign today.

He said he simply doesn't know where he wants to go yet and wants to have full conviction when he does make his commitment.

— Shotgun Spratling (@ShotgunSpr) February 1, 2023

Robinson (6-foot-6, 225 pounds) is the top-ranked tight end in 2023 and is No. 17 overall in this class according to the composite rankings.

28 different schools have extended offers, but Robinson has narrowed his list down to a handful of finalists. Georgia remains the heavy favorite but USC, Alabama, Texas and Oregon are also reported to still be in the mix.

Jaden Rashada commits to 'my childhood dream school' Arizona State

Pittsburg (Calif.) four-star prospect Jaden Rashada came into National Signing Day as the top uncommited quarterback in the country. He’s now made his choice.

In a statement released on his social media page Rashada announced that he’s committed to Arizona State.

“Just want to start off by thanking the Lord for my journey and the strength to get through whatever was & is put in front of me, thank you to everybody who truly knows me for me! Just want to keep this short and let it be known I’ll be attending Arizona State University, my childhood dream school, my fathers alma matter, a place where I’m happy and a school where the Head Coach has always had my back! Glad to truly be home! Can’t wait to carry on the family name at the University and start my journey! Forks up!”

Rashada’s recruitment has been the most volatile of this recruiting cycle. He initially committed to Miami, then flipped to Florida. However, a reported $13 million NIL deal with a booster organization fell through, and Rashada requested and was granted a release from his National Letter of Intent.

Soon after, several new schools got into the race but TCU and Arizona State emerged as the favorites to get him.

No matter how they got it done, the Sun Devils have landed a potent dual-threat QB in Rashada. As a Senior, he threw 32 touchdown passes and rushed for seven more scores. He’s ranked No. 6 at his position and No. 82 overall in his class.

Arizona State’s 2023 class is now ranked No. 36 in the country.

Nyckoles Harbor, nation's No. 1 ranked Athlete chooses South Carolina

The best uncommitted football player in the country has made his decision.

Archbishop Carroll (DC) five-star Athlete Nyckoles Harbor just announced that he has committed to playing college football at the University of South Carolina.

5-star recruit from @ACHSWashDC Nyckoles Harbor (@Nyck1k) commits to @GamecockFB! @nbcwashington #SigningDay

— NBC4 Sports (@NBC4Sports) February 1, 2023

Harbor (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) is arguably the most versatile player in this recruiting class. He plays wide receiver, edge and serves as a returner on special teams. He’s ranked first among prospects who play multiple positions and No. 19 nationally.

It’s a huge recruiting win for the Gamecocks, who have been favored to get Harbor’s commitment for several months. Head coach Shane Beamer couldn’t contain his excitement after the news broke.

Wow#WelcomeHome @Nyck1k !!!#AboveAllEl23 #WhosNext ?

Let’s Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤙🏻

— Shane Beamer (@CoachSBeamer) February 1, 2023

Michigan and Maryland were also in the running and Oregon made a late push over the weekend, but in the end Harbor chose South Carolina, which has arguably had a better start to the new year than any other program in the country.

The Gamecocks’ class of 2023 ranks No. 19 in the nation.
